This Weekās Market Forecast⦠š
Last week the title of our Monday piece was āAll Eyes on Nvidia.ā Last week was the end to tech earnings season where we got a solid yet not great report from Nvidia. Investors fear that demand for Nvidia chips may slow after the release of DeepSeek in January. Tech stocks sold off hard on Thursday, but had a decent rally to end the week. The Nasdaq is down 2.25% year to date.
This week the title is āAll Eyes on Tariffs.ā The market has been glued to Washington ever since Trump got elected President, and this week is set up to be another market moving week from the President. Trump announced 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada goods in the first week of his Presidency. His first deadline was February 1st, but changed it at the last minute due to Mexico and Canada agreeing to help defend the border. He pushed the February 1st deadline to March 4th, which is this Tuesday.
Investors do not like Trumpās tariff threats, and are scared that if he actually implements them, inflation will rise and growth will slow. Trump has been pretty slow in implementing tariffs so far, and has mainly used the threat of them to negotiate. It is hard to tell if he will actually implement these tariffs this week. I personally believe that Trump will make some sort of deal with Mexico and Canada, and at most just tariff the 2 countries at a reciprocal rate.
Recent economic data has been pretty weak. Over the last 2 weeks, we received 2 consumer confidence reports, and they both came in negative. Last week we finally got a normal piece of data with the PCE report, the Fedās preferred gauge of inflation, which came in as forecasted. This week the market will be all in on the February Jobs report, which comes out Friday at 8:30.
The market will most likely continue to be choppy and we may see some more pull backs. It is important to stay calm and to not overreact.
As always, stay positive, be optimistic, and get invested.
Have a wonderful week!!
