This Week’s Market Recap… 📊

The market has been quite volatile this week, with constant attention focused on economic data. The week started off on a negative note, breaking down certain momentum metrics.
On Wednesday, we received a CPI report that came in exactly as expected. While I personally don’t think it was a particularly strong report, the market responded positively and rallied to all-time highs. The Nasdaq 100 had its best day in over a month on Wednesday, gaining more than 1.5%.
However, the market retreated on Thursday following a hot PPI report. The report came in hotter than expected, signaling the potential reemergence of inflation. All major indices declined, with the Russell 2000 experiencing the largest drop of 1.38%.
Adding to the day’s events, President Trump made an appearance at the NYSE on Thursday. He became the first president to visit the exchange since George Bush and the first to ring the opening bell since Reagan in the 1980s. Fun fact: I’ll be heading to the NYSE on Tuesday to witness the opening bell!
Earnings this week have been relatively light, with the spotlight on Oracle and Costco. Oracle reported weak earnings on Monday, leading to a stock decline of over 6% this week. Costco, on the other hand, beat expectations in their earnings report, though their stock dipped in after-hours trading.
As we close out the week, all eyes are now on the big Federal Reserve meeting next week. The Fed is set to decide whether to cut rates by 25 basis points or hold steady. A 25-basis-point cut seems likely, but nothing is ever certain in this market.
Have a wonderful weekend!!
