This Weekās Market Recap⦠š
DONāT PANICā¦
The market has had one of the worst 2 days in history dropping over 10%. President Trump announced āreciprocalā tariffs on every country throughout the world at 4 PM on Wednesday.
At first the market reaction was positive on a report from the WSJ that the tariff rate would just be 10%. Trump then brought out a chart and showed the rates that they set. The minimum rate was 10%, and many countries had massive rates with China coming in at total rate of 54%.
The market started to slide in the after market. The selling continued on Thursday with all indexes falling over 4%. Many investors came out and said to buy the dip heading into Friday, with the market already down over 10% YTD.
Then Friday morning came, and US investors woke up from a headline that China would be setting reciprocal tariffs on the US at 34%. The market started to sell off, and ended up falling close to 6% on Friday alone.
I spent the whole weekend reading and listening all types of information regarding the sell off. More and more reports came out with the title, āBlack Monday.ā Everyone knows about the horror Black Monday in 1987, and some investors started forecasting a similar day for today.
This negativety continued into overseas markets with all of Asia opening down over 6%. Japan started trading down 6%, and China traded down 9%. As I write this on Sunday night, US Futures are down over 3% and have been in the red for the whole futures session.
Market corrections are all part of investing, and times like this are opportunities for long term investors to look to buy. As the great Sun Tzu says in the Art Of War, āIn the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.ā
I understand that this is a painful period, but I can promise you that it wonāt last forever.
As always, stay positive, be optimistic, and get invested!
